CHESTER FARM, Irchester

In its entirety, the Chester Farm site is an internationally significant ancient landscape exhibiting the remnants of human endeavour from the Paleolithic to the present day. At its core, the Farm presents a substantial Roman fort and vicus. The entire 85 acre site is a Scheduled Monument which contains within it a number of Grade II and Grade II* Listed buildings. As an artefact, the site has the potential to not only be an academic resource for the greater understanding of Northamptonshire’s past but – and as importantly – a significant economic resource for the county’s future tourism infrastructure and cultural well-being.

We were asked by David Laing to carry out an audit of the Chester Farm project and report on the long-term economic sustainability of the proposed developments. Our report made a series of recommendations for both future high-level management and day to day operation which are now in the process of being implemented.
